Monstera
acrylic on board
18x24

In this painting I combined elements with a Hawaiian origin. I just love Monstera leaves, they are great fun to paint, and I have seen them in the Hawaiian islands as well as here in my state. I added a stem of white orchids and a pair of Java sparrows, male and female. The butterfly fluttering above them is the pulelehua or Kamehameha butterfly, one of only two species of butterfly native to the Hawaiian islands.
King Kamehameha I is credited with uniting the islands into one kingdom in 1810.
