This painting was inspired by some sticks that had blown off my oak trees after a windy night, and I noticed some little lichen and other curious things growing on them. I like the shape of branches and sticks without leaves, gracefully posing. I was further inspired by a sighting of a Say's Phoebe in my garden birdbath. It was new to me, and I love the subtle color of these birds.
This painting has an elegant simplified quality, and I know that I myself find it calming to look at.
