We have bluebirds nest in our nesting box every year. The box is situated right next to a path that we walk by every day, but that's where the nesting box has always been and they have returned many years without fail.
So this painting is inspired by those western bluebirds, but here I have imagined they are settled down surrounded by Matilija poppies, a beloved native plant here in Ojai.
